The Battery Tender Junior 12V Battery Charger is a trickle charger with the ability to respond to the level of charge in an attached vehicular battery. It is designed for use with all lead-acid batteries, including AGM and gel cell varieties. The output of the charger is 12 volts with a current of 0.750 amps.
The primary use of the Battery Tender Junior 12V Battery Charger is to maintain the charge of a battery while a vehicle is not use. The “brain” of the charger is designed so that you don’t need to worry about overcharging a battery, as the charger will automatically switch to a safe maintaining level of voltage when the battery is fully charged.
In my experience, the Battery Tender Junior is quite easy to use. Attaching the charger to a battery is almost as simple as jump starting a car, and once you have it set up you can just let it sit there. I did have the clips slip off my battery once, so watch out for that. Other than that thought, the Battery Tender Junior has reliably kept my second car ready to go for some months now. I’m not surprised–the company has a reputation for excellent quality chargers.
One downside to this charger is it can take quite some time to fully charge a battery. If you need a quicker charge, look into the Plus version of the Battery Tender. However, the Plus version is significantly more expensive. I do appreciate that the Junior version has such an affordable price.
Another downside with the Junior version is that it lacks temperature compensation. This isn’t a problem for me, but it can be an important consideration if you live somewhere with more extreme temperatures. A minor problem for me was the length of the power cord. At only twelve inches, I had to haul out an extension cord to use it.
On the plus side, the Battery Tender Junior comes with a five year warranty. The small size is handy and makes it easy to transport or store it. And as I’ve said above, the charger is affordable, reliable, and simple to use. All in all, as long as you don’t need to quickly charge a battery, I would recommend trying out the Battery Tender Junior 12V Battery Charger.
